Brent tops London for HMO fires as council tightens licensing

Brent Council has recorded the highest number of fires in houses of multiple occupation in London over the past 19 months. The borough, which has one of the capital’s largest HMO stocks, introduced stricter licensing in 2025 after inspections found dangerous conditions in many properties.
