Ace Cafe London closes early due to biker stunts

Ace Cafe London, a venue operating for nearly 90 years, is now closing its doors early on Friday evenings. This measure has been implemented due to the disruptive actions of a group of motorcyclists who use the area as a meeting point for dangerous stunts.

Dangerous Stunts and Mocking Police

The cafe, located near the North Circular Road in Stonebridge, has become a focal point for bikers performing manoeuvres such as wheelies. Videos shared on social media show these activities, with one incident involving a quadbike being ridden up the side of a police van while the rider made gestures to an officer. The cafe owner, Mark Wilsmore, 69, who has managed the establishment for 32 years, described the behaviour as being "beyond any control."

The cafe issued a statement last week asking patrons not to visit after 6pm on Fridays. This followed repeated attempts to deter the behaviour. Mr Wilsmore stated he has been forced to close early since early July, citing concerns for the safety of riders, staff, and other road users. He has made numerous requests to the Metropolitan Police for greater enforcement, expressing fears that a fatality is inevitable if the situation persists.

Police Response and Dispersal Order

Neighbourhood Superintendent Tanya Lloyd acknowledged the circulating footage. "Our investigation teams are currently reviewing the footage to identify offences and offenders and deal with those committing crime," she stated. A Section 35 dispersal order was put in place at 8.49pm on Friday, August 21st, following reports of anti-social driving along the North Circular Road in Stonebridge. This order granted officers powers to direct individuals involved in anti-social behaviour to leave the vicinity. No arrests were made in connection with this order.

Superintendent Lloyd added that police are continuing to engage with local businesses to help prevent future disruptions. She encouraged anyone witnessing anti-social behaviour or having concerns to report it to officers on patrol or by calling 101, assuring that offenders would be dealt with swiftly.

Mr Wilsmore also highlighted the impact on the cafe's trade and its staff, whose incomes are affected by the early closures. He noted that while many young people involved may eventually mature, others risk becoming "statistics" through injury or imprisonment. He stressed that the responsibility for enforcement lies with the police, not the cafe.
