Barnet operation seizes Blue Badges, arrests wanted man

Barnet Council and the Metropolitan Police have carried out a joint operation in Hendon and West Hendon, focusing on environmental crime, anti-social behaviour, and fraud. The action day involved high-visibility patrols and joint enforcement activities across the two neighbourhoods.

Enforcement Outcomes

During the operation, 27 Blue Badges were checked, leading to the seizure of two for suspected misuse. Eighteen penalty charge notices were issued by parking enforcement officers. Ten instances of fly-tipping were identified and are now under investigation, with two fly-posting offences also recorded.

Enforcement teams also arrested one individual who was wanted by the courts. This person was found in possession of cannabis. Further stop-and-search activities resulted in additional outcomes related to cannabis possession.

Collaboration and Community Engagement

The operation involved multiple teams from Barnet Council, including the Community Safety Team, Corporate Anti-Fraud Team, and Parking Services, working alongside officers from the Metropolitan Police. Despite challenging weather conditions, officers engaged with hundreds of residents and businesses to gather intelligence and address local concerns.

Councillor Barry Rawlings, leader of Barnet Council, stated that residents expect action against issues impacting their neighbourhoods. He thanked the officers involved and the community for sharing information, adding that the council will continue to work with partners to improve safety and cleanliness in the borough.

Reports were also filed for graffiti removal and damage to highways. The day provided an opportunity for council and police teams to gather information directly from the public to inform future community safety initiatives.
