Brent Council has granted a licence to Wembley National Stadium Ltd for a one-day fan zone to be held in the Green Car Park adjacent to Wembley Stadium. The event will coincide with an NFL match between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans on Sunday, October 18.

Licence Details and Restrictions

The licence permits live and recorded music from 9:30am to 9:30pm and the sale of alcohol. A representative for Wembley Stadium stated during the licence hearing that a four-drink limit per attendee would be implemented. Trained staff will also enforce a Challenge 25 policy for alcohol sales. The fan zone's capacity is capped at fewer than 3,250 attendees to ensure safety. Organisers have assured tight security and noise monitoring throughout the event, which will also feature food, drinks, live entertainment, and competitions.

The Green Car Park has been used as a fan zone for an annual event over the past four years, according to the company’s application. This additional facility is required as other areas of the Wembley Stadium site will be used for purposes such as merchandise sales.

Objection and Police Contentment

One resident lodged an objection to the licence application, citing concerns over potential noise and the impact of alcohol sales due to the expected number of attendees. Despite this objection, councillors on Brent Council’s Alcohol and Entertainment Licensing Sub-Committee approved the licence on Monday.

To address concerns about public nuisance from alcohol sales, Wembley National Stadium Ltd liaised with the Metropolitan Police. Police representatives confirmed they were “content” with the proposed plans for the fan zone. A public spaces protection order is already in place around Wembley Stadium, prohibiting drinking on Olympic Way and surrounding areas during stadium events.

Context of NFL in London

Sunday's match is one of several NFL games hosted in London this season. Earlier in October, two games took place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Prior to the Jaguars-Eagle match, Trafalgar Square hosted a two-day American football experience with free entry for fans.
