Bush Hill Park Residents' Association seeks new volunteers
Four committee members are stepping down in September 2027, raising concerns about the future of the 91-year-old group.
The Bush Hill Park Residents’ Association (BHPRA) is appealing for new volunteers to join its committee, as four long-serving members prepare to stand down. The departures, scheduled for September 2027 after ten years of service, raise concerns about the future of the 91-year-old organisation.
The association, established in December 1935, represents residents within approximately a half-mile radius of Bush Hill Park Station, including the local conservation area. Its activities include monitoring planning applications, organising two annual litter-picks, and producing three newsletters each year. The group also connects with local councillors from Bush Hill Park and Southbury wards, discussing issues such as pavement conditions, parking, and litter.
Vacancies and Future Concerns
Positions that will become vacant at the next annual general meeting include the chair, secretary, and newsletter editor. The current secretary, Andrew Lack, stated that the departures leave the future of the organisation in doubt. The committee currently meets six times annually. In addition to its advocacy and practical community work, BHPRA maintains a healthy bank balance and regularly donates to local good causes. Recent beneficiaries include North Enfield Foodbank, Raglan School for books, and park groups such as the Friends of Bury Lodge Park and the Friends of Bush Hill Park Recreation Ground. A recent donation of £200 was made to the local ‘Men in Sheds’ group.
The association engages with local councillors to relay community concerns, which have recently included the state of pavements and roads, pavement parking, the number of waste bins in Queen Anne’s Place, and yellow lines within the controlled parking zone. Ongoing issues the group addresses include houses in multiple occupation, planning pressures on the conservation area, parking, speeding traffic, and litter.
Despite these challenges, BHPRA retains over 400 members. The association is seeking individuals interested in helping to ensure the continuation of its work. Those interested in volunteering can contact Andrew Lack via email at info@bhpra.org.uk.
