Free screening of climate film planned for East Finchley

A free public screening of the film 'The People's Emergency Briefing' is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14th at the Phoenix Cinema in East Finchley. The event, which begins at 6pm, is a partnership between several local organisations, including Barnet Climate Action Group and Barnet Friends of the Earth.

The film aims to inform the public and decision-makers about the climate and nature crisis. It presents evidence for the need to act on biodiversity and climate emergencies, detailing potential benefits such as reduced living costs, new job creation, and improvements in public health and environmental quality. The film also argues that acting now is economically sensible, while delay will incur greater financial and quality of life costs.

Community Discussion Following Screening

Around 40 people attended a recent screening of the film at Claremont Primary School NW2, following a summer marked by extreme weather events including wildfires, drought, and water rationing. The screening was organised by Our Yard at Clitterhouse and was followed by a community discussion.

During the discussion, participants shared their reactions to the film. Some expressed increased determination to take action, while others raised questions about how to involve more people. There was a general consensus that the film should be seen widely.

A local councillor who attended the Claremont Primary School screening suggested that councillors and council officers should view the film. A Barnet MP present at the event stated that the entire UK parliament should see the movie.
