Television presenter Jeff Brazier has revealed he sought police assistance in an effort to help his son Freddy, 22, manage his struggles with addiction. Brazier, 47, discussed the difficulties of supporting his son on the On The Mend with Matt Willis podcast.

He described the distress of witnessing his son suffer from psychosis after smoking marijuana, stating that during these episodes, Freddy's behaviour was not his own. Brazier recounted instances of having to search for his son, who would flee when approached, seeking out substances he believed he needed.

The presenter explained that he had tried various interventions, including blocking doors and approaching the authorities, but found himself unable to halt the addiction cycle. He also mentioned that Freddy had been sectioned as a teenager due to his conduct, but this measure did not lead to a change in his behaviour.

Son's use of TV budget on drugs

Freddy Brazier, who shares with the late Jade Goody, recently disclosed that he used funds allocated for the BBC show Celebrity Race Across The World on drugs. He explained that the filming period coincided with a difficult time mentally for him, particularly around Mother's Day, when he wished to be alone.

During filming in Brazil, Freddy admitted to escaping his hotel room to buy and smoke marijuana on the beach using his budget. He reflected on his actions as selfish, acknowledging that they could have jeopardised the show, but felt he needed the substance to cope with his mental state and avoid being filmed.

Freddy has been open about his substance abuse issues, previously revealing that he was sectioned as a teenager after experiencing drug-induced psychosis from marijuana use.

Jeff Brazier remains committed to supporting his son, believing this is what Jade Goody would have done had she still been alive.
