Man fined £1,200 for dumping fridge in Edmonton

Gheorge Florea, aged 44, has been ordered to pay a total of £1,200 after being convicted of fly-tipping a fridge in Edmonton. The incident took place on January 14, 2025, on Kenninghall Road.

CCTV evidence leads to prosecution

Enfield Council's Waste Enforcement Team used footage from mobile waste enforcement CCTV cameras to identify Florea. The cameras captured him dumping a large white fridge from his white Citroen van. Florea, who resides in Enfield, pleaded guilty to the offence under Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

The case was heard at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on July 9, 2026. Florea was fined £500 for the fly-tipping offence. Additionally, he was ordered to contribute £500 towards the council's costs and pay a £200 victim surcharge, bringing the total financial penalty to £1,200.

Council issues warning over illegal dumping

Councillor Maria Alexandrou, cabinet member for environment at Enfield Council, stated that the council will prosecute individuals who dump rubbish on the borough's streets. She emphasised that there is no excuse for such behaviour, highlighting the availability of free bulky waste collection services and household waste disposal facilities at Barrowell Green and Edmonton Eco Park.
