RnR Lounge granted 4am weekend closing in Chingford

RnR Lounge, a Caribbean bar and restaurant on Chingford Mount Road, has received approval to extend its weekend closing time to 4am. The decision was made by Waltham Forest Council's licensing sub-committee last week. Previously, the venue was licensed to close at 11pm on weekdays and 2am on Fridays and Saturdays. The new hours will see it close at 1am on Thursdays and Sundays, and 4am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Applicant's assurances on noise and behaviour

The applicant informed the committee that neither the council nor the Metropolitan Police had ever received noise complaints related to the establishment. He described having a positive working relationship with both authorities and expressed a willingness to engage further. To manage late-night operations, staff will receive full training, and two to three door supervisors will be employed on weekend nights if deemed necessary. The building underwent soundproofing in 2019, and the venue had operated under seven temporary licences allowing a 4am close this year without any reported issues.

Resident's concerns addressed

One local resident submitted a formal objection to the application. The objection raised concerns that the extended hours could potentially increase antisocial behaviour, public nuisance, littering, and disturbances during times when local residents are attempting to sleep. Despite this objection, the licensing sub-committee stated they were "confident" in the applicant, describing him as a "responsible business owner who would follow the law and regulations", leading to the approval of the extended hours.

What happens next

The new closing times are now in effect. The council will continue to monitor the venue's operations. Residents with ongoing concerns about noise or antisocial behaviour can report them to Waltham Forest Council's environmental health team.
