Adjoa Andoh keeps licence after speeding in Dulwich 20mph zone

Actress Adjoa Andoh will keep her driving licence after admitting speeding on Lordship Lane in Dulwich. Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court heard on 12 August 2026 that Andoh had driven at 25 mph in a 20 mph zone on 13 February 2024. She already had nine penalty points on her licence and faced three more, which would normally trigger an automatic disqualification.

Exceptional hardship argument accepted

Magistrates decided not to impose a driving ban. Andoh’s defence argued that losing her licence would prevent her reaching her 85-year-old mother, who lives alone in a rural area four hours from London. This Is Local London reported that the court heard the mother has no carers and is increasingly frail.

When asked by the magistrate how she would respond to an emergency call about her mother while working, Andoh replied, “If I have to go, I have to go.” She added, “I’ve only got one mum.” The court was told that none of Andoh’s children can drive and her brother lives in Los Angeles.

Financial penalty and next steps

The court fined Andoh and ordered her to pay £1,026 in costs. She also received three additional penalty points, bringing her total to twelve. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told London Crime News that speeding offences in 20 mph zones remain a priority for enforcement across London.

Southwark Council said residents concerned about speeding on Lordship Lane can request traffic-calming measures through the council’s highways portal. The next scheduled review of 20 mph zones in Dulwich is due in March 2027.
