Bexley Magician Admits Child Sex Offences

Kevin Doig, a 66-year-old former teacher and magician from Bexley, has pleaded guilty to child sex offences. He admitted engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a nine-year-old girl between September 2024 and March 2025. Doig also pleaded guilty to three charges of possessing indecent images of a child and one charge of possessing a prohibited image of a child, relating to 1,767 images. He denied one further charge of engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with the same child.

Doig, who spent 32 years teaching in south-east London before retiring, also worked as a magician and appeared in pantomimes. For more than a decade, he served as the child protection officer for The Magic Circle, a magician membership group. He was also chair of the Young Magicians Club, a youth initiative run by the organisation, from 2011 to 2022.

Charity Responds to Offences

A spokesperson for The Magic Circle Foundation stated that Doig was asked to resign when the allegation was brought to the organisation's attention. The spokesperson described the situation as a matter of grave concern to The Magic Circle, The Magic Circle Foundation, and the Young Magicians Club. The charity confirmed that the charges against Doig were not related to his activities with the Young Magicians Club.

The Magic Circle Foundation is filing a serious incident report with the Charity Commission regarding the public knowledge of Doig’s offence and its potential impact on the foundation’s reputation. The organisation stated its commitment to providing a safe environment for young people involved with its activities and will continue to review safeguarding arrangements.

Doig was released on conditional bail and is due to appear before the same court again in October for further proceedings.
