Councillor Anton Georgiou, leader of the Liberal Democrat Group at Brent Council, has called for Wembley Stadium to review a planned performance by Marilyn Manson in 2027. The request follows multiple allegations of sexual assault and psychological abuse made against the artist by several women.

Marilyn Manson, whose real name is Brian Hugh Warner, is scheduled to be a support act for Slipknot on their 2027 tour. The allegations against him, detailed in a Channel 4 documentary, have prompted calls for the performance to be cancelled. Multiple women, including actors Evan Rachel Wood and Esmé Bianco, and former personal assistant Ashley Walters, have made claims through civil lawsuits in the US and public statements. Mr Warner faces a criminal trial next year concerning allegations made by Ms Walters, though he has consistently denied any wrongdoing, stating the claims are false.

Councillor's Call for Action

Councillor Georgiou stated that not asking difficult questions when it matters is contrary to the stated aim of tackling violence against women and girls. He expressed disappointment that the council had not spoken out publicly about the booking. 'The allegations against Marilyn Manson are serious, and while he denies wrongdoing, Wembley Stadium needs to explain what consideration was given to them before this booking was confirmed,' Councillor Georgiou told London Crime News. He added that Wembley, as a major institution in Brent, has a responsibility to take concerns seriously and be open about the decision-making process, clarifying that his request was not about censorship.

Following the announcement of Manson's involvement in the July 3, 2027 performance, thousands of fans reportedly indicated they would boycott the show.

Council and Stadium Response

A spokesperson for Brent Council stated that decisions regarding performers at Wembley Stadium are a matter for the venue and event organisers, as the council has no direct control over commercial bookings. The council affirmed its commitment to tackling violence against women and girls and encouraged the headline act and organisers to reflect on feedback from residents and survivors. Wembley Stadium confirmed that events are agreed months in advance and that the selection of support acts is at the promoter's and headline artist's discretion. The stadium reiterated its commitment to the safety and wellbeing of guests and the community. It also noted that it is liaising with Councillor Georgiou and has commenced discussions with the promoter regarding the performance.

Janaya Walker, Interim Director of the End Violence Against Women Coalition, commented that the stadium needs to take a stance. 'Multiple women have reported being subjected to sexual assault and domestic abuse by Marilyn Manson, who continues to be celebrated and profit from major concert performances, including at the UK’s biggest stadium,' Ms Walker said. She added that ending violence against women and girls is both everyone's business and everyone's responsibility.

What Happens Next

Wembley Stadium is continuing its dialogue with Councillor Georgiou and the promoter. The outcome of these discussions regarding Marilyn Manson's planned performance remains to be seen.
