CPS reviews sexual assault claims against Mohamed Al Fayed

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is reviewing a file concerning allegations of sexual assault against the late Mohamed Al Fayed. The Metropolitan Police submitted the file to the CPS three years after the former Harrods owner died at the age of 94. The investigation into the claims follows decades after the first reports of abuse were made.

Scale of Allegations

So far, more than 400 allegations have been made against Al Fayed. These include accusations of rape, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, and human trafficking. At least 156 women have come forward with these claims, which reportedly span the years 1977 to 2014. The Guardian reported that at least 21 women made allegations while Al Fayed was still alive.

Al Fayed died without any charges being brought against him. The CPS has stated that it will not provide a timescale for its decision regarding the case, as reported by The Guardian.

Further Investigations

The Guardian also noted that news articles and documentaries have previously detailed alleged enablers of Al Fayed's behaviour. These individuals reportedly included lawyers, spokespeople, security personnel, and doctors involved in examinations of his female personal assistants.
