Driver admits killing passenger in M4 crash

Aadil Sabir, 31, has pleaded guilty to causing the death of William Bailey by dangerous driving. The fatal collision occurred on the M4 near junction three in Hayes, West London, on October 29, 2023. Two other passengers, Azfur Khan and Hamad Zaman, sustained serious injuries in the incident, which involved an overturned Mercedes car on the eastbound carriageway.

William Bailey, a rear passenger in the Mercedes, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Metropolitan Police were called to the location at 11:39am following reports of an overturned vehicle. Emergency services attended and found four individuals with injuries, all of whom had been travelling in Sabir's vehicle, according to police statements.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

Sabir, who is from Cardiff, entered his pleas via video-link from Wales at the Old Bailey. Judge Simon Mayo KC warned the defendant that he faced a significant custodial sentence. A pre-sentence report was ordered, and sentencing has been fixed for November 23. Sabir was granted conditional bail and received an interim driving disqualification.

The incident caused considerable disruption on the M4 approach to Heathrow Airport. The Metropolitan Police had previously appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage to assist their investigation into the crash.
