Eltham sports club seeks extended hours after stabbing
Police found no failings after April incident; neighbours object over noise.
Incident → evidence → outcomeGB10 Sports Club, located at Footscray Playing Fields in Eltham, is seeking permission from Greenwich Council to extend its operating hours. The club wishes to open from 11am to 11pm on Sundays through Thursdays, and from 11am to 12:30am on Fridays and Saturdays. Its current hours are from noon to 11:30pm daily.
Extended Alcohol Sales
The application also includes a request to extend the hours during which alcohol can be sold. Currently, alcohol is available between noon and 11pm. GB10 wants to serve drinks from 11am to 11pm on weekdays and from 11am to midnight on weekend nights.
Police Response to Incident
The proposed changes come after a stabbing incident occurred at the club during a private party in April. The Metropolitan Police investigated the matter and confirmed that GB10 Sports Club staff acted responsibly. Officers found no failings in the club's management concerning the incident.
Neighbour Objections and Agreed Conditions
Nine local residents have formally objected to the premises licence application, primarily due to concerns about noise. To address these objections, the club has agreed to two conditions proposed by Greenwich Council's community protection team. These conditions stipulate that no more than ten customers may be in the external smoking area after 9pm, and all external windows and doors must be kept closed from 9pm onwards.
Previous Noise Complaints
Last summer, the club received a warning from Greenwich Council following several noise complaints from nearby residents on July 11. Concerns were also raised about the club advertising drinks promotions prior to Women's Euros matches, which council officers felt might encourage irresponsible alcohol consumption. Another complaint on August 22 detailed loud music and heavy bass vibrations disturbing a family, including young children. However, GB10 has reported no noise complaints related to its licensed activities since that time.
Licensing Committee Review
Greenwich Council's Licensing Sub-Committee C is scheduled to consider GB10's premises licence application on Tuesday, August 25.
