Former nurse Jason Forde, 56, denied eight charges at Wood Green Crown Court on Tuesday afternoon. The allegations concern alleged sexual activity with a woman being treated at a mental health unit on the site of Homerton Hospital in Hackney during the 2000s. Forde appeared via video link for the hearing.

Extradition and Charges

Mr Forde was extradited from Barbados earlier this summer, arriving at Heathrow Airport, a process described by prosecution barrister Paul Fairley as having taken "many, many years to achieve". He pleaded not guilty to one count of having sexual intercourse with a woman who was "a mental defective" under the Sexual Offences Act 1956. He also denied a charge of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a patient under the Mental Health Act 1959.

Further charges include three counts of sexual activity with a person with a mental disorder impeding choice, and three counts of being a care worker engaged in sexual activity with a person with a mental disorder, both under the Sexual Offences Act 2003. The mental health unit was formerly part of the East London and City Mental Health Trust.

Trial Date Set

Judge Emma Deacon KC set a trial date for April 26, 2027. The estimated length of the trial is four days. Mr Forde was remanded into custody following the hearing.
