Gary Glitter denies eight sexual abuse charges

Gary Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, has denied eight allegations of sexual abuse against a girl when she was aged between eight and 11. The alleged offences are said to have taken place in Kensington and Chelsea, west London, between 1978 and 1981. Glitter, 82, is accused of inviting the girl to his home and causing her to touch his genitals, as well as engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with her. He denied four charges of indecent assault, two counts of indecency with a child, and two charges of sexual intercourse with a girl under 13.

Court appearance and pleas

Appearing via videolink from HMP Channing Wood at Southwark Crown Court on 2 September 2026, Glitter entered his pleas. He responded "absolutely not guilty" to two of the charges and "not guilty" to the remaining six. The court heard allegations that Glitter committed at least 20 incidents of sexual abuse against the girl, including touching her vagina over her underwear, smelling her hair, touching her thigh, and nibbling her ear.

Investigation and trial details

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the allegations were first reported on 9 January 2025, and Glitter was interviewed on 22 July 2025. Judge Tony Baumgartner, the Recorder of Westminster, has adjourned the case for a trial expected to last three weeks. The trial is scheduled to commence on 22 November 2027. Glitter was remanded into custody by the judge until the trial date.
