Hillingdon councillor Sophie Dror has been accused of "stoking hatred" after posting a comment in a social media group following a machete attack in Cowley. The remark, associated with Cllr Dror's account, stated "import the 3rd world you get the 3rd world".

The incident occurred in Cowley Recreation Ground on September 25, when a man in his 50s was treated in hospital for injuries. Two teenagers were arrested in connection with the attack and have since been released on bail pending further inquiries. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that no information about the background of the suspects had been published at the time of the comment.

Accusations of inciting hatred

Cllr Stuart Mathers, Leader of Hillingdon Labour, condemned Cllr Dror for speculating on the ethnicity of the suspects. He stated, "Stoking hatred in our communities is not helpful in keeping our residents safe." He added that the police had not revealed any details regarding the suspects' backgrounds.

The comment was posted under a broader discussion about the attack in a social media group. Cllr Dror confirmed she made the comment but asserted it was intended for a wider debate on immigration policies and mass migration, not specifically about the Cowley incident. She rejected the accusation of "stoking hatred", stating that political discussion about immigration should not be misrepresented.

Cllr Dror also stated that she did not personally delete the comment and could not comment on why it was removed. She emphasised that her views on immigration and mass migration, consistent with Reform UK's stance, should not be conflated with speculation about the individuals involved in the specific incident. She reiterated that thoughts remain with the victim and his family.
