Tyrone Muir has been sentenced to three years and two months in prison for a burglary that occurred on Lee High Road. The 47-year-old was identified by police after his name was overheard by an officer during the incident.

Investigation into the break-in

The burglary took place on Thursday, July 16. Doorbell footage captured three men forcing their way into the victim's home. The victim, who was distressed, could not provide detailed descriptions of the intruders but recalled one of them shouting, 'come on Tyrone, let's go.'

PC Max Kelly, from the Met's Territorial Support Group, investigated the crime. He cross-referenced the name Tyrone with police records for Lewisham. Potential matches were then compared against the doorbell footage, leading PC Kelly to identify Tyrone Muir as a suspect.

Chief Superintendent Chris Green described the case as distressing, involving a vulnerable victim who may have been exploited. He stated that PC Kelly's actions demonstrated professionalism and commitment, highlighting his persistence in identifying a small but significant clue to safeguard the victim.

Arrest and sentencing

Following the identification, officers obtained Muir's address on Micheldever Road, Lewisham. PC Kelly spotted Muir sitting on a bench approximately 10 minutes away from his residence. Despite Muir having changed his clothes and attempting to disguise himself, PC Kelly recognised him and made the arrest.

PC Kelly stated that it took time to review all potential matches but he was determined to explore every avenue. He added that once Muir's face was matched to the footage, he knew they had their suspect. He expressed disbelief when he spotted Muir on the bench and was able to arrest him swiftly.

Muir was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court.
