Mamadou Bah jailed for three years for Chancery Lane Tube robbery

Mamadou Bah, aged 19, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment for a robbery that took place on the London Underground. The sentencing occurred at Warwick Crown Court on a date not specified in the reporting. The incident happened in the early hours of December 20 at Chancery Lane station.

Bah was travelling on a Central line train when he noticed a sleeping passenger with a gold chain necklace. As the victim woke and disembarked at Chancery Lane, Bah followed him. He then grabbed the victim's collar from behind in an attempt to steal the necklace. The victim resisted, but Bah eventually managed to pull the necklace off, breaking its clasp.

The victim prevented Bah from leaving the station, restraining him near the escalators. Station staff alerted the police, who attended the scene and separated the two individuals. A search of Bah revealed he was in possession of two gold chains, including the one taken from the victim. The stolen chain was returned to its owner, and Bah was arrested.

During police interviews, Bah initially claimed he acted in self-defence. However, after being shown footage of the incident, he remained silent and refused to answer further questions. He later pleaded guilty to the charge in July of this year.

Detective Constable Annika Liparoti of British Transport Police expressed satisfaction with the outcome. "Our officers work tirelessly across the railway network throughout the year to detect and deter robbery offences, utilising plain clothes assets in combination with uniformed patrols to catch offenders and secure justice for victims as we did in this case," she stated, as reported by MyLondon. She also urged anyone who is a victim or witness to a robbery to report it by texting 61016 or speaking to station staff.
