Laura Sone-Demetrious, 42, was killed on Tuesday, 9th January 2024, while walking her two dogs on a pedestrian crossing on the A10. Both dogs also died in the incident. Olmez also admitted driving without insurance. His sentencing date for both offences is yet to be set.
Second Driver Faces Trial
Another man, Roderick Mirzakhanian, aged 31, who was also in the vehicle, has pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing death by dangerous driving. He is scheduled to stand trial in June next year.
Road Safety Campaign Leads to New Cameras
Following Laura Sone-Demetrious's death, her sister, Gina, initiated a road safety campaign. This campaign was instrumental in Transport for London (TfL) agreeing to install average speed cameras along the A10 Great Cambridge Road. TfL confirmed this agreement last year.
