The assault took place in October 2022 in an alleyway adjacent to the shop Brown operated with his partner. Woolwich Crown Court heard that the victim was heavily intoxicated at the time of the attack and prosecutor Mr Brennan stated she had repeatedly refused intercourse.
Court proceedings
During his arrest, Brown maintained that the intercourse had been consensual. Following a four-day trial, the jury returned a guilty verdict. In a statement read to the court, the victim reported ongoing nightmares stemming from the incident.
Siobhan Molloy, representing Brown, informed the court that his children would be affected by his imprisonment. She added that Brown did not accept the jury's verdict and therefore could not offer mitigation based on remorse. Recorder Steven Kovats KC noted that the victim's intoxication and inability to resist physically were aggravating factors in the sentencing.
