South Londoners Jailed for Multiple Child Sex Offences, Escape and Violence

A number of South London residents have been sentenced to prison terms for serious crimes committed across the region. Among those jailed in August were individuals convicted of child sex offences, attempted murder, robbery, drug supply, and escaping lawful custody.

Child Sex Offences and Abuse

Tony Swanson, 75, of Wren Road in Beckenham, was sentenced to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of 15 child sex offences, including four counts of rape. The court heard that Swanson, founder of the Taoist Arts Organisation, abused a child he met at classes in a Beckenham church hall in the mid-2000s. He groomed the girl over three years, committing sexual abuse and rape. The abuse also involved forcing the child to watch him have sex with her mother and attempting to force the child to perform oral sex on her mother. Police believe Swanson may have other victims, as he taught children in the Beckenham and Sidcup areas.

Javaughn Brown, 36, from Maidstone, was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison for rape. The offence occurred in October 2022 in an alleyway behind a shop he ran with his partner in Sidcup. The victim was a significantly younger woman who was heavily intoxicated. She required hospital treatment following the attack. Brown had initially claimed consensual intercourse when arrested.

Violent Offences and Escapes

Gerard Parkinson, 64, of Parkhill Road in Sidcup, received a 28-year prison sentence for two attempted murder charges. The attacks took place on March 1, 2023, at a house in Bonney Way, Swanley. Parkinson used a hammer and knife, striking one victim in the head and stabbing another in the chest before striking her with the hammer. A neighbour restrained Parkinson until police arrived. He will also serve an additional five years on licence.

Daniel Boakye, 21, was jailed for 10 months for escaping lawful custody twice within a single week. Boakye, who performs as drill rapper Dsavv, first escaped from guards at West Middlesex University Hospital and was found the next day. He escaped a second time days later from Lewisham Hospital. He was eventually arrested in Brittany, France, 16 days after his second escape. Police stated they did not know how he left the country.

Robbery and Drug Supply

Alexander Emmerich, 28, and Stephen Hand, 29, both formerly of Thames Road in Crayford, were sentenced for robbery and drug supply offences. The pair used a handgun to rob a shop on Gilbert Lane in Belvedere twice in January last year before being arrested fleeing a third robbery on Stanhope Road in Swanscombe. Both were convicted of conspiracy to commit robbery. Emmerich received 11 years and 9 months, and Hand received nine years. During the investigation, police found evidence of cocaine dealing. Emmerich was found to be heavily involved in supplying cocaine, enlisting Hand and Hannah Sims to deal on his behalf. Hand was described as a user in debt to Emmerich.

Sexual Assault After Horse Show

Ryan Dinnage, 32, from Croydon, was sentenced to eight years and six months imprisonment for rape. The offence occurred in a caravan after the final day of the Royal Windsor Horse Show. Dinnage entered the caravan of a woman who was sleeping and sexually assaulted her. He was arrested the following day. After initially denying sexual activity, he changed his account to consensual intercourse when forensic evidence linked him to the attack. A jury found him guilty of one count of rape.
