Three south London men jailed for violent crimes in August court rulings

Three men from south London have been sentenced to a combined 48 years and six months in prison for violent crimes, including attempted murder, armed robbery and rape. The cases, concluded in August, involved victims in Swanley, Bexley and Windsor, with sentences handed down at separate Crown Court hearings.

Hammer attack in Swanley leads to 28-year sentence

Gerard Parkinson, 64, of Parkhill Road in Sidcup, was jailed for 28 years with an additional five years on licence after being found guilty of two counts of attempted murder. The attack occurred on 1 March 2023 at a house in Bonney Way, Swanley, where Parkinson used a hammer and knife against two women.

Parkinson struck the first victim in the kitchen with a club hammer, knocking her unconscious. He then went upstairs and stabbed the second victim, who was asleep, in the chest before hitting her with the hammer. The second victim managed to wrestle the weapon away and escape, while a relative who intervened was also injured. A neighbour restrained Parkinson until police arrived.

Armed robbery and drug dealing in Bexley

Alexander Emmerich, 28, from Crayford, was sentenced to 11 years and nine months for conspiracy to commit robbery and cocaine supply offences. Emmerich and his accomplice, Stephen Hand, 29, carried out armed robberies at vape shops in Belvedere and Swanscombe in January 2023, using a handgun.

Police later discovered evidence of cocaine dealing on their phones. Prosecutor Simon Foster said Emmerich was heavily involved in supplying cocaine and had enlisted Hand to sell drugs on his behalf. Hand was jailed for nine years in November 2023 for his role in the robberies and drug offences, as reported by the Wandsworth Guardian.

Rape conviction after Royal Windsor Horse Show

Ryan Dinnage, 32, from Croydon, was sentenced to eight years and six months for raping a woman in her caravan following the Royal Windsor Horse Show. The victim, who had been working at the event, was asleep when Dinnage entered the caravan and assaulted her.

Dinnage initially denied any sexual contact with the victim but changed his account after forensic evidence linked him to the attack. A jury unanimously convicted him of rape, leading to his sentence.

What happens next

Parkinson, Emmerich and Dinnage will serve their sentences in prison, with Parkinson subject to an additional five years on licence following his release. The Crown Prosecution Service has not indicated any further legal proceedings in these cases. Victims may access support services through local authorities or organisations such as Victim Support.
