Tim Westwood faces two new sexual offence charges

Former DJ Tim Westwood, 68, has been formally charged with two further sexual offences. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced on Tuesday that it has authorised the Metropolitan Police to bring these charges. These new allegations relate to incidents said to have occurred in 1991 and 2004.

Details of New Charges

Westwood is accused of indecently assaulting a teenage girl in Hammersmith and Fulham in 1991. He is also charged with the sexual assault of a woman in Wandsworth in May 2004. A date for his appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court is yet to be fixed.

Catherine P Baccas, deputy chief crown prosecutor in CPS London, stated that prosecutors had worked to ensure there was sufficient evidence and that further criminal proceedings were in the public interest. She reminded the public that criminal proceedings are active and the defendant is entitled to a fair trial.

Existing Allegations and Trial

These latest charges follow an investigation by the Metropolitan Police into separate reports. Mr Westwood is already facing a total of 15 charges concerning alleged non-recent offences between 1983 and 2016, involving seven women. These include nine counts of indecent assault, two counts of sexual assault, and four counts of rape.

The broadcaster has denied all allegations made against him. He previously entered not guilty pleas to all counts. His trial for these existing offences is scheduled to take place at Southwark Crown Court in January.
