Tottenham winger faces driving ban after speeding plea

Tottenham Hotspur winger Dejan Kulusevski is at risk of a driving ban after admitting to a speeding offence. The player was caught by a camera travelling at 43mph in a 30mph limit within the Limehouse Link tunnel last September. He has pleaded guilty to the charge, which brings his total penalty points to at least 12, according to written submissions to the court by the Metropolitan Police.

Kulusevski, a 26-year-old Swedish international, has requested that the court consider his personal circumstances when determining his sentence. In an email to the court, he stated he could not attend in person as he was undergoing training following a year-long injury. He explained that his young family relies on him for transport to appointments and that he needs his car for work, including late-night returns from away games.

Exceptional Hardship Claim

Motorists accumulating 12 penalty points on their licence are typically subject to a six-month disqualification. However, drivers can appeal to avoid a ban by demonstrating that it would cause them 'exceptional hardship'. Kulusevski's submissions to the court outlined his need to drive for family and work commitments.

The player's offence occurred on September 28 last year. He entered his guilty plea through the Single Justice Procedure. His case has now been referred to Barkingside Magistrates’ Court for a sentencing hearing scheduled for September 21.
