Uxbridge sisters drowned in Brighton suicide pact
Inquest finds three siblings entered the sea to end their lives after visiting mother's grave.
Three sisters from Uxbridge, west London, drowned off Brighton beach on May 13, 2026, after entering the sea in a suicide pact, an inquest has found. Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, travelled from their homes to Birmingham the day before their deaths. Their mother, Janice Adetoro, died by suicide at Brookvale Lake in Birmingham in 2010.
The sisters visited their mother’s grave on May 11, 2026, and were driven back towards London the following day. They then travelled to Brighton, arriving at 10.20pm on the evening of May 12, 2026. Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cullimore told Brighton Coroner’s Court that on May 13, 2026, two calls were received reporting bodies in the sea. He stated that the sea was particularly rough and windy at the time.
Senior Coroner Penelope Schofield recorded that the sisters entered the sea at West Beach, Brighton, to end their lives. She noted that none of the sisters could swim and that the sea conditions were adverse when they entered the water.
A cousin of the sisters, Natalie Walters-Daniel, 33, told The Sunday Times that the siblings had never recovered from their mother's death. She said that the years following their mother's passing were crucial stages of growing up where they missed her guidance and love. Ms Walters-Daniel suggested a connection between the sisters' visit to Brookvale Lake and their subsequent actions.
