West Ham's Taty Castellanos faces ban over alleged spitting incident

West Ham forward Taty Castellanos is at the centre of an allegation that he spat at Millwall goalkeeper Filip Marschall during a recent 2-2 draw between the two clubs. The incident reportedly took place in the 65th minute of the match, which saw Millwall leading 2-0 at the time.

TV cameras captured Millwall keeper Marschall, 23, appearing to show the Premier League referee Paul Tierney a mark on his shirt which he claimed was spit. Following the game, broadcasters were informed that Millwall had submitted a complaint to the match officials regarding the alleged behaviour.

Managers did not see the incident

Both Millwall manager Alex Neil and his West Ham counterpart Nuno Espirito Santo stated they did not witness the alleged spitting. The incident occurred on the far side of the pitch from the dugouts. Neil told reporters that he had not yet spoken to Marschall about the event but expressed surprise if an accusation had been made without substance. He added that he expected the relevant authorities to investigate the matter.

Nuno Espirito Santo acknowledged awareness of the allegation but confirmed he had not seen any footage or spoken with Castellanos. He stated he would review the images before commenting further. Spitting offences, if proven by the Football Association, typically carry a penalty of a six-match ban.

The alleged incident overshadowed a strong second-half performance from West Ham, who came back from a two-goal deficit to secure a draw. Nuno Espirito Santo described the game as tough and acknowledged defensive fragilities that led to Millwall's goals. He indicated that the upcoming three-week international break would be beneficial for the team to address these issues.
