Security personnel tackled a man to the ground at the Apple store located within Battersea Power Station on Thursday. Footage of the incident appears to show the individual attempting to remove display devices from a bench before being confronted by staff near the exit.

Alarms sounded during the confrontation as onlookers observed. The dropped devices were subsequently collected by additional security personnel. It remains unclear if any arrests were made following the incident.

Metropolitan Police Retail Crime Efforts

This event occurs as the Metropolitan Police continue their efforts to combat retail crime throughout the capital. The Met has reported a 3.7 per cent decrease in shoplifting offences across London, which equates to approximately 3,500 fewer recorded incidents annually. Despite this reduction, shoplifting continues to present a significant challenge, with over 100,000 offences recorded each year.

Between November 2024 and October 2025, Met officers attended 14,274 out of 32,133 shoplifting reports that were assessed as requiring a police response, representing 44 per cent of these cases. Police attendance is prioritised for incidents involving violence, detained suspects, repeat offenders, or situations where urgent forensic evidence collection is necessary.

Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Matt Jukes stated that the police have been targeting various stages of the criminal chain. He added, "Over the last two weeks, Met officers have targeted every stage of the criminal chain, from prolific shoplifters stealing to order through to the shop owners buying and reselling stolen goods. Tens of thousands of pounds worth of suspected stolen goods have been seized, shop owners arrested and businesses closed down."

Mr Jukes further commented, "Those results send a clear message: if you profit from retail crime, you will be arrested. Working alongside partners such as retailers and Trading Standards, we will use every power available to disrupt this criminality, protect honest businesses and make London's high streets safer."
