All six east London boroughs recorded fewer offences in August compared to July, with Tower Hamlets seeing the highest number.

Tower Hamlets recorded the highest number of crime offences in east London during August, with 3,526 reports. This figure represents a slight decrease from July's total of 3,592 offences for the borough. The most frequently reported crime in Tower Hamlets was theft, with 1,245 incidents, followed by violence against the person (968 reports) and public order offences (285 reports).

Across east London as a whole, 14,080 offences were reported in August. This represents a decrease from the 15,374 offences reported in July. Every borough in the region saw a reduction in its August crime count compared to the previous month.

Newham second for crime reports

Newham recorded the second highest crime count in east London in August, with 3,438 offences. This total was lower than July's figure of 3,734. In Newham, theft was also the most common crime, with 1,073 cases reported, followed by violence against the person (977 reports) and vehicle offences (423 reports).

Lower crime counts in other boroughs

Redbridge reported 1,932 criminal offences in August, down from 2,212 in July. Violence against the person was the most common crime type in Redbridge, with 775 reports. Waltham Forest recorded 1,863 reports in August. In this borough, violence against the person and theft were the leading crime types.

Barking and Dagenham reported 1,679 crime incidents in August, a decrease from 1,872 in July. Havering recorded 1,642 crime reports, down from its July total of 1,908. In both Barking and Dagenham and Havering, violence against the person was the most regularly reported crime type.
