A company named Halloween Nights Fear has been selling tickets for non-existent Halloween scarefest events across the United Kingdom. The company listed 10 events, including one purportedly taking place in London, with tickets ranging from £14 to £140. The events were scheduled to run from 20 October to 1 November.

Transport for London has confirmed that a scarefest event listed for its premises is fake. Similarly, Cardiff Castle and Bradgate Park in Leicestershire have also stated that events advertised in their names are not real. The BBC has been unable to find any evidence of these events beyond the listings on the Halloween Nights Fear website.

Sophisticated Scam Website

Technology expert David McClelland described the Halloween Nights Fear website as one of the most convincing and sophisticated he had encountered. He suggested that artificial intelligence may have been employed to generate the website's content, making it appear legitimate to most users. McClelland noted that while some images showed signs of AI generation upon close inspection, the overall presentation was designed to appear authentic.

The Halloween Nights Fear website was launched in July. The company is not registered with Companies House, and its social media presence has recently been deleted. Attempts by the BBC to contact the company via the phone number listed on its website were unsuccessful, and an email remained unanswered.

Action by Trading Standards

Leicestershire Trading Standards has identified several concerns with the website, including a non-working telephone number, a seemingly false address, and a recently registered domain. A spokesperson stated that they are taking steps to contact the website operator and have requested that the site be deactivated. They advised anyone who has purchased tickets to contact their bank for potential recovery options and seek advice from the Citizens Advice Consumer Service.

Cardiff Castle has also encouraged individuals who bought tickets from the site to contact their local trading standards services. They reiterated that the advertised event was not linked to the castle and was not scheduled to take place there.
