Barnet held to draw at The Hive but remain top

Barnet Football Club drew 2-2 with Cheltenham Town at The Hive on Saturday, with Kabongo Tshimanga scoring a late penalty to secure a point. The draw means Barnet remains at the top of the league standings.

Early Lead and Second-Half Reversal

Charlie Lakin gave Barnet an early lead in the first half. However, Cheltenham Town scored two quick goals in the second half following defensive errors by the home side. Barnet's goalkeeper Matt Cox made several saves throughout the match, including an early stop from Jake Evans.

The Bees' opening goal came after Kabongo Tshimanga fed the ball across the six-yard box to an unmarked Lakin, who placed it into the bottom corner. This marked Lakin's third goal of the season. Barnet had further chances to extend their lead, with Danny Collinge's header cleared off the line and Jake Reeves' shot hitting the crossbar.

Cheltenham's first goal arrived on the hour mark when a lack of communication between Barnet defenders Danny Collinge and Nik Taveras allowed Ryan Broom to score. Four minutes later, a short back pass from Myles Kenlock led to Cheltenham's second goal, scored by Charlie McCann.

Late Penalty Secures Draw

Barnet manager Dean Brennan made several substitutions in an attempt to change the game. With twelve minutes remaining, Oisin Gallagher was fouled in the box, and Kabongo Tshimanga calmly converted the resulting penalty to level the score at 2-2.

Despite the draw, Barnet remains at the top of the league, level on points with four other teams. The team is scheduled to play away against Exeter on Tuesday evening and then face Chesterfield away next Saturday.
