Comedian Luisa Omielan hospitalised after Lime bike crash

Comedian Luisa Omielan has been hospitalised following an accident involving an electric Lime bike. The 43-year-old performer, known for her Edinburgh Fringe shows and BBC adaptations, was diagnosed with a minor brain injury, Post Concussion Syndrome, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after the incident in June.

Omielan revealed on Instagram this week that she had hit her head again, resulting in another concussion. She shared a selfie from A&E, noting that a nail technician had offered a discount due to her emergency visit. The comedian also mentioned that her birthday was approaching and suggested a helmet as a gift.

The initial accident occurred when Omielan rode her electric bike into a brick wall, resulting in a broken nose. She described the experience as a "rough day" and stated that she would no longer use Lime bikes. At the time, she shared that her self-esteem was damaged and that while thankful it was not worse, the injury would initially appear more severe.

Following the diagnosis of her brain injury and related conditions, Omielan announced she was cancelling all upcoming comedy performances to concentrate on her recovery. She explained that while everything would eventually be fine, the recovery process would require time. She also noted the challenges of continuing with life when facing setbacks.

Omielan expressed gratitude for the support she has received, including from strangers who offered assistance. She highlighted the kindness of people during her challenging period, stating it had restored her faith in humanity. She encouraged others to offer help when they see someone in need.

She mentioned that her sister had been providing support, including gentle exposure therapy, to help her gradually try things again. Omielan stated there was a clear path forward for her recovery and that she was fortunate to have this support system.
