Dartford parents seek justice for son's 2016 stabbing death
Two men accused of killing George Low fled to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and are believed to be in Turkey.
Ten years after their son George Low was fatally stabbed while on holiday, his parents continue their fight for justice. Mr Low, a 22-year-old estate agent from Dartford, died in August 2016 in Ayia Napa, Cyprus. Two men, Mehmet Akpınar and Sali Ahmet, who are accused of his death, fled to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and have not been extradited.
Helen and Martyn Low have spent the past decade seeking accountability for their son's death. The suspects are believed to be in Turkey, a country that does not extradite its own nationals. The parents have stated that Cyprus has not provided evidence to Turkey that would enable a prosecution there.
Government Support
The case was recently discussed in Parliament. Foreign Office minister Uma Kumaran informed the family that the government would "continue to stand alongside" them in their "pursuit for justice." A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirmed that their thoughts are with Mr Low's family and friends and that they continue to support the family and engage with relevant authorities to encourage progress in the investigation.
Mrs Low has reportedly received messages on Facebook from one of the suspects, who allegedly blamed the other for the killing. The couple promised George they would seek justice after identifying his body. Mr Low recounted a Foreign Office minister stating that the incident "couldn’t have happened in a worse place."
