Joey Barton remanded in custody until March trial

Bail Application Refused
Appearing via videolink from HMP Liverpool on Monday, Barton's renewed bail application was refused by Judge David Potter. The judge remanded him into custody ahead of a pre-trial hearing scheduled for December 11.
The case had been due to go to trial last week but was adjourned. Barton, who was arrested shortly after the incident, will have spent 12 months on remand by the time his trial begins, which is scheduled to take place exactly one year after the alleged assault.
Barton, formerly of Widnes, Cheshire, played for clubs including Manchester City, QPR, Newcastle, Rangers, Burnley and Marseille. He also has one England cap.
