Incident → evidence → outcomeKiran Kaur, the mother of murderer Vickrum Digwa, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment for assisting an offender. She was convicted at Southampton Crown Court for removing the knife her son used to kill Henry Nowak from the scene of the crime. The incident occurred on December 3, 2025, when Nowak died from a stab wound to the chest.
Assisting an offender
Kaur took the weapon back to the family home following the murder. As an Indian national, she may be eligible for the Government’s deportation scheme. The Home Office stated, "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Henry Nowak, whose life was cruelly cut short in a horrific act of violence. We will always seek to deport foreign criminals at the first opportunity."
Son's conviction and appeal
Vickrum Digwa was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years on June 1 for the murder of the 18-year-old student. Digwa had falsely claimed Mr Nowak had racially abused him. Kaur is currently appealing her sentence, with a hearing set for November 5 at the Court of Appeal.
The early release scheme, intended to prevent the justice system from collapsing, has seen thousands of prisoners scheduled for staged release. Ministers have stated that the scheme is necessary due to pressures on the justice system. Reports indicate Kaur could be released around the anniversary of Mr Nowak’s death if she serves less than half of her sentence under the scheme.
