New website supports victims of child abuse
IAmReady.org.uk offers guidance and case review options for survivors of child sexual abuse and exploitation.
Incident → evidence → outcomeA new online resource, IAmReady.org.uk, has been launched to provide support and information for victims and survivors of child sexual abuse and exploitation. The website offers tailored guidance and pathways for individuals to explore options regarding previously closed cases.
Case Review Opportunities
The website facilitates the submission of information for Operation Beaconport, a review initiative examining investigations between 1 January 2010 and 31 March 2025. This operation focuses on cases where police forces or the Crown Prosecution Service previously decided to take no further action. Specially trained officers will review the information provided by victims and survivors against existing case files to identify potential lines of enquiry for reinvestigation, which will only proceed in liaison with the individual.
Users can navigate the site at their own pace, with options to save progress and return later. The site also provides information on reporting abuse to the police or specialist support services, and directs users to appropriate review processes such as the Child Sexual Abuse Review Panel and the Victims’ Right to Review Scheme.
Support and Information
Chief Constable Becky Riggs, National Police Chiefs' Council Lead for Child Protection and Abuse Investigation, stated that the website aims to provide victims with clear information and compassionate support, allowing them to make informed decisions. "I Am Ready has been developed to help people access information and support whenever they feel ready to do so," Chief Constable Riggs said. "Most importantly, it gives victims and survivors greater choice and control, allowing them to decide how and when they engage."
Nigel Leary, National Crime Agency Deputy Director and Operation Beaconport lead, highlighted the commitment to listening to victims and survivors. "Victims and survivors are crucial in shaping an effective law enforcement response, and through Operation Beaconport, we are committed to listening to and hearing from victims and survivors to ensure we learn from the past," Mr Leary stated.
The initiative was developed in collaboration with victims and survivors to ensure it meets their needs. Independent support from specialist organisations, Independent Sexual Violence Advisers, and victim support services is available throughout the process. Individuals can choose to provide contact details if they wish to be updated on their case review.
Satvir Kaur, Minister for Safeguarding and Violence Against Women and Girls, encouraged anyone seeking information to use the tool. "This new website brings trusted guidance together in one place. I encourage anyone thinking 'what next?' to use this tool to better understand their options, make informed decisions and stay in control," Ms Kaur said.
