Pedestrian struck by bus at Walthamstow Bus Station

A pedestrian was struck by a bus at Walthamstow Bus Station on Tuesday, September 22. The incident happened around 10 am and resulted in the area being cordoned off by police. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the pedestrian survived the collision.

Previous Fatal Incident and Safety Concerns

The incident at Walthamstow Bus Station follows a fatal crash in December 2023, where a retired nurse was killed by a bus at the same location. Transport for London is currently facing a criminal prosecution in relation to that death. The bus station underwent safety upgrades in early 2024, with new pedestrian crossings installed.

However, according to Dylan Carroll, founder of London Bus Forums, the new crossings were not installed at the entrance where the recent incident occurred. Mr Carroll stated, as reported by MyLondon, that this indicates a "systematic failure in the health and safety in the bus station" and expressed concern that safety has not improved sufficiently despite investment.

Disruption and Response

The collision on September 22 led to significant disruption, affecting 18 London bus routes including routes 20, 34, 55, 69, 212, 215, 230, 257, 275, N26, N38, N73, SL1, SL2, W11, W12, W15 and W19. Transport for London has been approached for a statement regarding the incident.
