Incident → evidence → outcomeZacariah Boulares, aged 19, has been sentenced to two years and 10 months imprisonment for two armed robberies. The offences involved the use of a machete to threaten victims into handing over their Rolex watches. The court heard that Boulares had previously been released from detention before committing these latest crimes.
Robberies and Threats
The robberies took place in August 2023. Boulares aggressively brandished a large blade and used extreme intimidation against two victims, each wearing a Rolex watch. Victims reported Boulares issuing threats such as "give me the watch or I'll chop your hand off", believing they were about to be attacked. This incident followed an earlier encounter in July 2023 where Boulares ambushed TV presenter Aled Jones on Chiswick High Road, threatening him with a machete and stealing his watch, valued at £17,000. He also previously attempted to steal the phone of Bridgerton actress Genevieve Chenneour on Kensington High Street.
Judicial Remarks
Sentencing Boulares at Southwark Crown Court, Judge Jas Jandu stated that the teenager had "rampaging around the streets with a deadly weapon, robbing people in broad daylight or attempting to do so and you should be ashamed of that." At a previous sentencing, Judge Martin Edmunds had noted Boulares' attitude, telling him: "You seem to be plagued by an attitude that if people can afford nice things, then you can take them."
Previous Convictions
Boulares was sent to youth detention for earlier offences and was released prior to committing the two Rolex robberies. His previous convictions include attempted theft of a mobile phone from actress Genevieve Chenneour. He was jailed last year for a string of thefts, which included the attempted phone theft on Kensington High Street.
