Three men receive football bans after Halling station assault

Details of the assault
The assault involved John Ryan, 62, and Freddie Dunmall, 20, both from Maidstone, and Camron Brockman, 21, from Featherstone. The three men were involved in a fight on a train travelling towards Halling railway station. Revenue Enforcement Officers on board the service stopped the train at Halling. According to British Transport Police, an injured man who had been escorted onto the platform was followed by Dunmall, who then punched him. Ryan then punched the injured man twice, and Brockman kicked him.
Court outcomes and consequences
Following interviews in June last year, all three men were charged with affray. At Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on September 7, Brockman was handed a five-year football banning order. Ryan and Dunmall each received three-year bans. In addition to the football bans, all three were given community orders lasting between 12 and 18 months, which include rehabilitation requirements.
“As a result of their frankly stupid behaviour, these three football fans will now be unable to attend any football matches in the UK for up to five years. There is simply no excuse for violence - and these banning orders should serve as a reminder to anyone who believes they can get away with unacceptable behaviour on the railway, there will be consequences.”
PC Oliver Millar, from the British Transport Police’s football policing unit, stated that the banning orders were a consequence of the men's behaviour and a warning against unacceptable actions on the railway.
