14-year-old boy dies after entering Millwall Outer Dock in Tower Hamlets

A 14-year-old boy drowned in Millwall Outer Dock on Monday evening after entering the water near East Ferry Road in Tower Hamlets. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the incident, stating officers were called at 6.48pm to reports of a boy in the water.

Despite efforts by emergency services, the boy was retrieved from the dock at 10.30pm and pronounced dead at the scene. The death is being treated as unexpected but not suspicious, according to police.

Detective Superintendent Oliver Richter, speaking on behalf of the Metropolitan Police, expressed condolences to the boy’s family. He said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of this young boy at this incredibly difficult time."

London Fire Brigade Assistant Commissioner Patrick Goulbourne confirmed firefighters responded to reports of a teenager in the water. He said: "Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency responders, the teenager was later found dead."

Police inquiries are ongoing to prepare a report for the coroner. No further details about the boy or the circumstances leading to the incident have been released. The Metropolitan Police have not named the boy at this stage.
