Stickers link to a website advertising cannabis products for delivery across the UK.
Incident → evidence → outcomeDozens of stickers bearing QR codes have been affixed to street furniture and shop fronts along Deptford High Street in South East London. These stickers, appearing in recent weeks, direct curious individuals to a website that advertises various cannabis products. The site claims to offer the "UK's best quality meets express shipping, dispatched fast in plain, odour-proof packaging" and that ID will be checked upon delivery.
Police response to the stickers
Police forces across the country have stated they are actively searching for these stickers and will remove them when encountered during patrols. While the Metropolitan Police did not comment specifically on the Deptford High Street adverts, a spokesperson said: "We are committed to tackling the issues that matter most to Londoners. The sale and supply of drugs including cannabis is a key driver of serious crime across our communities."
The spokesperson added: "The Met will pursue those criminals who manufacture, cultivate, import, and supply illegal drugs, recognising the devastating impact that can have on our communities. We’ll continue to work with our partners to drive down the demand for drugs across London and support people to live drug free lives."
The stickers, often featuring an emoji of a cannabis cigarette, have been noted on lampposts, bins, and shop fronts approximately every 10 metres along the high street. The website linked by the QR codes reportedly offers a range of illicit items, including edibles, pre-rolls, and cannabis-infused vape products.
City of London Police have previously warned the public against scanning QR codes linked to illicit cannabis websites. They have stated that such sites are illegal and potentially harmful, carrying risks of viruses and data collection attempts, in addition to the effects of consuming cannabis.
