Enfield Council and Met Police discuss new local police hubs

Plans to establish new police hubs within Enfield Council buildings are progressing positively, according to council leader Alessandro Georgiou. Discussions between the council and the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) are ongoing, with initial scoping work completed. The current focus is on developing a hub in Enfield Town.

The council has provided the MPS with an occupation cost quotation for the proposed facilities. The proposal is now undergoing review through the MPS's internal governance and approval processes. The council is seeking clarity on the anticipated timeline for these decisions.

Funding and Service Details Unclear

No council funding has been allocated to the scheme at this stage. The expectation is that occupation and operating costs would be met by the MPS, subject to their approval of the proposal. It remains unclear what opening hours or specific services these new hubs would offer, with further details anticipated next year.

This initiative follows a period of public concern regarding police station accessibility. Last year, plans to close Edmonton Police Station were reversed following a backlash, leading instead to reduced opening hours. The station is now accessible to the public between 10am and 10pm on weekdays and 9am to 7pm on weekends, having previously been open 24 hours.
