Islington schools investigate malicious emails, police confirm no credible threat

The Metropolitan Police is investigating threatening emails that were sent to schools across Islington and neighbouring boroughs on September 10. Multiple educational establishments reportedly initiated lockdown procedures as a precautionary measure after receiving the same malicious message.

Council confirms investigation and reassures public

Islington Council confirmed that police are actively investigating the emails and working to identify the sender. A spokesperson for the council stated that while the email is concerning, it does not specify any particular schools or individuals. The police have assured the council that there is currently no information indicating a credible threat to any specific school or person within Islington.

Schools that received the message contacted the police immediately and enhanced their security measures. This included securing school buildings and managing access points throughout the day. While specific schools named as taking precautionary action include Canonbury Primary School and Sacred Heart, it is understood that many more also adopted similar measures.

The council emphasised that the safety of pupils and staff remains its top priority and that schools continue to be safe environments. School staff are maintaining vigilance and adhering to existing security and safeguarding plans, with ongoing communication with the Metropolitan Police.
