The Metropolitan Police imposed a dispersal order covering specific streets in Thamesmead on October 17. The order, which ran from 8am until 11.59pm, was put in place due to concerns over antisocial behaviour and crime.

Area Covered by Order

The designated area within Thamesmead included Wolvercote Road, Academy Way, Overton Road, Sydney Road, Maran Way, Shire Court, and St John Fisher Road. Officers operating under the dispersal order have the authority to direct individuals engaged in antisocial behaviour, crime, or disorder to leave the specified locality. Failure to comply with these directions may result in police action.

Authorisation and Kent Police Action

Inspector Keen authorised the Metropolitan Police dispersal order. In parallel, Kent Police enacted their own dispersal order covering the town centres of Chatham and Rochester, along with Fort Pitt Gardens, Jackson’s Field, and Victoria Gardens. This Kent order began on October 16 and was scheduled to conclude at 11.15am on October 18.

Arrests in Kent

The Kent Police order followed reports of antisocial behaviour involving young people in Chatham. A disturbance on Chatham High Street on October 8 led to the arrest of eight teenagers. Three of these individuals were released on conditional bail, while the remaining five, arrested on October 16, remained in custody.

Information or footage relating to incidents can be reported to Kent Police on 01634 792209, quoting reference 46/170982/26.
