Met Police seize £4m in cash and cocaine after Catford car stop

Metropolitan Police officers uncovered £4 million in cash and a kilogram of cocaine during a search of a property in Catford last month. The discovery followed a stop of a suspicious vehicle in the same area, though the exact date in July 2026 has not been disclosed.

The driver, a 54-year-old man, was found with £35,000 in cash at the time of the stop. He was arrested on suspicion of possessing criminal property and taken into custody, as reported by MyLondon.

Search reveals larger stash

A subsequent search of a home linked to the man led to the discovery of the £4 million. The cash was concealed in multiple bags across two bedrooms. Police also found 1 kilogram of cocaine during the search.

Footage of the operation, shared by MyLondon, shows officers removing the man from the vehicle and later uncovering the cash stash inside the property.

Police statement on operation

Commander Paul Brogden, who leads Specialist Crime at the Met, said the seizure demonstrated the effectiveness of stop and search tactics. He emphasised the role of such operations in identifying and disrupting criminal activity, as reported by MyLondon.

Brogden added that the result reflected the persistence of the officers involved. He said the Met would continue to target those profiting from illegal drugs and causing harm in communities.

The 54-year-old man remains in custody. The Metropolitan Police have not confirmed whether further arrests or charges are expected. Investigations into the source of the cash and drugs are ongoing.
