Two Met officers arrested abroad on assault allegations

Two Metropolitan Police officers have been arrested in Budapest, Hungary, on suspicion of sexual assault and assault. The arrests follow allegations of misconduct during an alcohol-fuelled evening involving a group of 15 officers from the same Met Police station who were on holiday.

Following the alleged events of one evening, a female officer made an official complaint about the conduct of at least two male officers. This led to the detention of two constables. One officer was arrested on August 31, and the second was detained on September 3.

Investigation into misconduct

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that two serving officers were arrested following an investigation by the force's Directorate of Professional Standards. The incidents are reported to have taken place in Budapest. The officers were bailed and have since been suspended from duty.

The Directorate of Professional Standards is continuing its enquiries into what is described as a complex investigation. The probe is also examining the apparent lack of supervision during the officers' trip. The Met stated that all allegations of criminality or misconduct by officers are treated with the utmost seriousness.
