92-year-old man dies in West Norwood van collision

A 92-year-old man has died following a collision with a van on Curnick's Lane in West Norwood. Emergency services were called to the scene at 2:53pm on Thursday, September 24. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the location.

Investigation and Arrest

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the driver of the van, a 72-year-old man, was arrested at the scene. He was taken into custody on suspicion of causing death whilst driving without insurance and death by dangerous driving. Detective Sergeant Kirsty Troy, who is leading the investigation, stated that the police are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Detective Sergeant Troy appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant footage to come forward. This includes dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell camera recordings. Information can be provided to the police by calling 101, quoting reference 4346/24SEP.

Emergency Service Response

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service confirmed their attendance. The service was alerted at 2:53pm to reports of a road traffic collision in Curnick's Lane. Resources dispatched included an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars, an advanced paramedic, and an incident response officer. The first paramedic arrived at the scene approximately six minutes after the call.

The spokesperson added that despite the efforts made to save the man's life, he sadly died at the scene. The Met Police are continuing their investigation into the collision.
