Brent Civic Centre closed as murder investigation continues

Brent Civic Centre and Wembley Library remained shut on Wednesday as the Metropolitan Police continued their investigation into a fatal stabbing. The closure marks the second consecutive day the buildings have been inaccessible to the public following the incident on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to the civic centre at 2.25pm on Tuesday. Upon arrival, officers discovered a teenage boy or a man in his early 20s with stab wounds. Despite receiving treatment at the scene, the individual was pronounced dead by paramedics.

Official Response and Public Safety Measures

Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council, expressed profound shock at the incident. He stated, "Today, Brent has been shaken by an appalling and deeply tragic incident at the civic centre, in which a person has lost their life." He extended condolences to the victim's family and loved ones, as well as to staff, residents, and visitors who may have witnessed the event. Mr Butt urged the public to avoid the area to allow emergency services to conduct their work.

Following the stabbing, police implemented a Section 60 order. This measure grants officers enhanced powers to stop and search individuals and vehicles within specific areas of Wembley. The affected zones include Wembley Park, Barnhill, Tokyngton, Stonebridge, Roundwood, Dollis Hill, Willesden, and Welsh Harp. Superintendent Chris Clarke of the Metropolitan Police described the event as "an awful incident in which someone has tragically lost their life."

As of Wednesday, no arrests have been made in connection with the death. A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service confirmed that while paramedics attended, they were unable to save the victim.
