Christopher Rocha, aged 22, has been formally charged with rape and intentional strangulation. The accusations stem from an alleged assault that took place in Macklin Street, Covent Garden, during the early hours of Saturday, 22 August. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the charges following an investigation.

Court Appearance and Next Steps

Rocha, who resides on Kilburn Lane in Westminster, made an appearance at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday, 12 September. He was remanded in custody. His next court date is scheduled for Friday, 9 October, at Wood Green Crown Court.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Ridley commented on the case, stating, "Our thoughts are with the victim who continues to demonstrate tremendous courage. No woman or girl should feel unsafe on the streets of London, and we remain steadfast in our pursuit of those who commit these terrible offences." The police stated that the victim was approached by an unknown man as she walked through areas including Shaftesbury Avenue, Cambridge Circus, and Drury Lane. It is alleged that around 5:20am, the man forced her into a doorway in Macklin Street before the assault occurred.
